On 5 December 2023, at COP28, Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero, Graham Stuart, announced that the UK Government would allocate up to £80 million additional funding through the UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions) programme. The funding will support governments across Africa, Asia, and Latin America to set clean growth goals, reduce emissions through renewable energy projects, introduce greener transport and transition to more sustainable use of land.
This new funding is part of the UK Government’s £140 million commitment to support countries to switch to cleaner energy and deliver net zero while growing their economies. The announcement is a strong endorsement of the programme, both in terms of its strategic importance and its delivery and impact to date.
In support of countries meeting net-zero ambitions, Minister Graham Stuart said: "Backed by an extra £140 million, the UK is leading the world in supporting developing countries to unlock innovation and clean tech in this critical decade for our climate." |
All of this contributed to the UK Prime Minister announcing, at the start of the COP28 Summit, £1.6 billion for projects to combat deforestation, preserve the natural environment, and expedite the global transition to clean and renewable energy.
