We are pleased to announce that today the UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions) programme has launched a new funding opportunity for projects in the forest sector in Brazil.
Brazil-UK PACT is seeking to extend its support to the forest sector in Brazil, through a technical assistance and capacity-building project aimed at assisting the country’s Government in supporting Brazil’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) by structuring financial mechanisms for the National Native Vegetation Recovery Plan (PLANAVEG). The deadline for applications is 6 January 2025 at 12:00 BRT / 15:00 UTC.
Structuring financial mechanisms for PLANAVEG
UK PACT will award grants for a project that can provide technical assistance and capacity-building to support the Forest Department of the National Secretariat of Biodiversity, Forests and Animal Rights (SBio) of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MMA) to contribute to Brazil’s NDC. This will be done by structuring financial mechanisms for the PLANAVEG, an instrument defined by the National Native Vegetation Recovery Policy — PROVEG, Decree 8,972/2017.
This Call for Proposals seeks to provide support for the SBio team on their strategy to implement the PLANAVEG, projecting the costs to restore 12 million hectares, as well as identifying and accessing diverse sources of financing for each arrangement and target audience. SBio also aims to redesign and strengthen PLANAVEG’s public-private governance that defines financing mechanisms and tools to be operationalised on national, regional and local scales. It also aims to mainstream its Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) component to address barriers and promote engagement from marginalised groups (GEDSI analysis, training, technical inputs).
Who can apply?
Organisations should consult full eligibility criteria in the terms of reference before applying. For-profit and non-profit organisations can apply as a sole applicant, or as part of a consortium. Government agencies and/or departments are not eligible to apply either as a lead organisation or partner in a consortium. All consortia must have a local organisation as the consortium lead. A local organisation is understood to be an organisation that operates in Brazil under the National Register of Legal Entities (Cadastro Nacional de Pessoa Jurídica – CNPJ).
Full selection criteria for evaluating proposals are listed in the terms of reference, and cover aspects such as cost-effectiveness, project management, impacts on GEDSI, technical capacity of the organisation or proposing consortium.
