Embedding Strategies and Action Plans for Climate Just Transitions in Communities (MRV)

 Led by: Keystone Foundation
 Sector:  Nature
 Duration: April 2023 - March 2025

Project background:

The science, practice & culture of measuring reporting and verification (MRV) are at a nascent stage in India, especially in community involvement in regions where agriculture, forests, wetlands and other land uses dominate. Simultaneously, it is well established that livelihoods rooted in low-carbon economies of selected ecosystems both meet critical measures of wellness & health for people, animals & biodiverse ecosystems & are essential to embedding sustainable climate transitions. Addressing the climate challenge in these ecosystems presents a crucial opportunity for developing sustainable and just development policies.

Project summary:

The Embedding Strategies & Action Plans for Climate Just Transitions in Communities (MRV) project creatively unravels these complexities and respond to identified needs by codesigning a community-level MRV that focuses on both climate mitigation and resilient livelihood challenge.

Our expected outcomes from the project:
  • Inclusive community engagement in climate mitigation using MRV tools in three chosen ecosystem sites: forests, mangroves and wetlands
  • A roadmap to implement community-based MRV as a strategy for community -engaged climate mitigation
